This list is built from at least four lists off the Internet plus quite a few extra I've added. Remember to contact both the place you're moving from and the place you're moving to where these are under different companies/authorities. I.e. moving from London to Swansea will mean a new doctor, dentist, water board, electricity company, school etc. so require two letters, while changing your address on your driving licence is only the one letter. Most of these organisations will require the change in writing.

While this list has been written by a British person, I've tried to make sure it applied equally to the US and the rest of the world ... if I've missed anything, mail me!

• AA / RAC / Breakdown (motoring organisations)
• Alarm Monitoring company
• Alumni/College Associations
• Bank (+ Giro Savings Bank)
• Bicycle coding companies (and similar organisations that keep track of keys, credit cards etc.)
• Blood transfusion service if you are a donor
• Building Society
• Cable TV/phone
• Church
• Coal man/Oil delivery/Wood delivery
• Companies House (if your address is the registered location for your company)
• Credit Cards (and if your card company provides a service for lost/stolen cards etc. that covers multiple cards, make sure that that is also updated)
• Dentist
• Doctor (+ chiropodist, podiatrist, paediatrician, gynaecologist etc. Remember to get any repeat prescriptions etc. transferred)
• Driving Licence & Car Registration DVLC, Swansea SA99 1AB. Note: You will need your driving licence if you want to hire a moving van, so don't send it off until after you've finished the move!
• Electricity Board
• Employer (particularly Wages/Salary office at work!)
• Estate Agents/Realtors/Letting Agencies to let them know you're not looking anymore
• Family
• Football pools
• Friends
• Gardener
• Gas Board (both for bill and for any service cover you may have paid for or require)
• Hire purchase company
• Inland Revenue/I.R.S. (Inspector of taxes)
• Insurance Companies (life, home, endowment, health, car, pension)
• Internet Provider/CompuServe/AOL etc.
• Investments (Building society, shares (contact the Registrar), income bonds, premium bonds (get form P2767B from Post Office) etc.)
• Junk Mail preference organisations, e.g. Mailing Preference Service, FREEPOST 22, London W1E 7EZ (they supply direct mailers with lists of people who dor or don't want to receive junk mail, see the Advertising Standards Authority website for more details)
• Key return service, if your keychain/fob has a tag saying "if found, drop this in any mailbox" you'll want your keys back!
• Library
• Local Authority (County offices, town hall etc.) Rates/Council Tax and parking permits etc.
• Magazine/Publications subscriptions (including "free" subscriptions like Marketing Week, Computer Weekly or Farming Weekly)
• Mail Order Companies
• Milkman
• National Insurance
• National Savings and S.A.Y.E.
• New resident of address you're moving from so that they can, if they want, forward mail etc.
• Newspaper deliveries
• Notify bank to cancel standing order/direct debit on previous mortgage/rent agreement
• Opticians
• Other Delivery services
• Other Specialists (e.g. lawn service, nappy service, pool cleaner (lucky sod!), tree surgeon, snow plough, music teacher, etc.)
• Pet microchip company, if your pet has a microchip to identify it if it gets lost etc.(thanks Leeann!)

• Professional Organisations (including Trade Union)

• Storage Company (if you're going to be setting up or closing down your storage you will need to give them notice)

• Get a current local Yellow Pages and/or Thompson local directory and/or similar guide
• Food Delivery (pizza, Chinese, Indian etc.)
• Food Takeaway (same as above)
• Taxi/Minicab numbers
• Late night shops (particularly petrol/gas, food, chemist/pharmacy)
• Emergency numbers (glazier, gas, electric, water, roofer etc.) Many credit card companies have a special hotline to assist with these
• Doctor/Dentist/Veterinarian/other medical practitioners
• Credit card emergency/loss numbers (and keep your credit card numbers handy!)
• Motoring Organisation emergency number
• Location of local major supermarkets, petrol stations, video rental shops, off licence (liquor store), pharmacy, train station, bus station, taxi rank etc.
• Train timetable and information
• Bus timetable and information
• Local authority (particularly if they provide refuse collection, garage rental or other useful service! You'll need to contact them about local taxes and parking permits anyway)
• Carpet and Upholstery cleaners
• Double glazing companies (!Just joking!)
• Alarm company (+ how to disarm the alarm!)
